Noise and the Beauty
Superbooth was on again this year and I spent 4 frantic days with the guys at the AE Modular booth. This year we had tangible waves, BF Synth, Wonkystuff and Symbolic Circuits and it was chaotic, fun, entertaining, educational and very, very tiring!

Superbooth was hectic again this year, especially with our own SupAEbooth inception booth! For the first time, Robert from tangiblewaves shared the booth with Toms aka Kyaa, John aka Wonkystuff and Gregory and Zeno from BFSynths. These guys were totally rocking it as you can see in this Instagram post:
Robert showed off the new IMDI modules which bring MIDI to the modular. Check out this video:

After 3 really full on days we all relaxed with some pizzas and beers and talked about what went well and what could be improved in future events. This video is probably for super nerds only, but it was fun to make, so enjoy!
Sascha is a really consummate artist and his work flows between the rhythmical (he’s a drummer by trade), the ambient (he gives workshops on how to make music with tapeloops) and the visual. For his visuals he’s interested in making sound visible by using old, fluorescent oscilloscope and sending audio into them which he programs using Pd, a graphical programming language for programming sound.

Matt came prepared to Superbooth and smuggled this tiny system onto the premises. As you can see there is less than a handful of modules in there, but they pack a big punch as you will hear in this video.
I interviewed John from Wonkystuff and he demonstrated his new MIDI system complete with micromodules.
In this interview at Superbooth ’23, Toms aka KYAA is presenting his new case design for the AE Modular system. Not only is it super sturdy as it’s made of aluminium, but it also features an ingenious quick swap design where you can easily plug modules in and out of the case.
I had a wonderful time with Sascha, aka HAND Tapeloop in his studio which is actually right on the same grounds as Superbooth! Sascha’s perspective on making music with the AE Modular is shaped by his practice as a drummer and also from making music with tape loops.
Here I talk with Toby who approaches the AE Modular by designing very creative faceplates and DIY cases.
It was great to catch up again with Felix aka The Tuesday Nightmachines at Superbooth 2022. He was instrumental when we set up the AE Modular Forum back in 2018 and he has done incredible work promoting the AE Modular systems with his videos, reviews and tutorials over the last few years.
Here I had a great time chatting with Toms aka Kyaa who came all the way to Chicago to meet our small AE Modular group and to show off his newly developed 2AUTO module.
