Rhythms 01

This time an experiment in rhythm after all the ambient tracks of the last few weeks.

Patch Diagram

One LFO is the central clock which feeds the TRIQ164 and SEQ16. Channel 4 on TRIQ164 sends a clock to TOPOGRAF which in turn drives the KICK and DRUM 010. TRIQ164 Channels 1 sends triggers to LOPAG for another percussion voice and channels 2 and 3 go to envelopes that modulate the bass and lead sounds.

The WASP filter’s cutoff CV is modulated by the CV out from the SEQ16. This gives the lead sound some rhythmic variation even though it’s playing the same note for 4 bars.

The bass line is just the OSC1’s sub oscillator going through the NYLE filter.

Ambient 01

This is an ambient track with some Topograf rhythms and keystep noodling. The bulk of the sound is created by the 2OSC module with the second oscillator hard synced to the first. Movement is created by sending this through the wavefolder with LFO modulation of the shape. Also modulating the filters with LFOs and even using the MM Divider to create rhythmic sub oscillations.

Live at Oscillations 2019

This is the final video of my first live performance together with Adam on guitar at Oscillations 2019 the first ever synth festival in the Bega Valley in NSW, Australia.

Big thanks to Sats Kramer and Ray Toms for the camera work and especially Scott Baker for mixing and cutting it all up into this video!

AE Mini Modular and Korg Electribe

First jam with the AE Mini Modular and Korg Electribe 2 together. The electribe sends a MIDI sequence to the AE and the AE’s audio goes into the electribe’s input for processing using the built in effects.

To do this you need 2 parts on the Electribe. Part 1 is sending the MIDI notes to the AE on MIDI channel 1 and part 2 is set to Audio Input. To hear the sound of the AE you need to record a continuous note on part 2 for the whole pattern.

Detailed explanation at the end of the video.

Getting Started 11 – Using the 3VCSWITCH

In this video I’m explaining how the AE Modular 3VCSWITCH works and how to use it in a patch. This is an odd and interesting module and applications aren’t easily apparent, so I hope you get some ideas from this.

The Road to Murrah Hall

On 19th October 2019 we held the very first synthesizer festival in the Begavalley on the Far South Coast of NSW in Australia. This was a project that was long being discussed in our Synth Club and only with the help of the Bermagui Make & Create Crew, the Begavalley Shire Council and Navigate Arts did we manage to pull this off. It was held at the iconic Murrah Hall near Bermagui in a beautiful bush setting.

As one of the organisers I was invited to talk about this on the ABC Radio morning show the Friday before the festival and to perform live with my modular synthesizer. Nothing like this was ever aired before on this station in its long history. I prepared a 15 minute set but then got only 5 minutes to actually perform it … so I recorded it at home and used it as background to a few photos and clips that I took of the Synth Festival.

Enjoy the few impressions of the day (I have left out the evening performances as those will be covered somewhere else) and I hope that we will do this again next year and invite anyone who lives close or far to come and celebrate synthesizers and electronic music in a rustic bush setting, close to the most wonderful beaches of Australia.

All music on this track was made exclusively with the AE Modular synthesizer from tangible waves and recorded directly to a Zoom H1n handheld recorder. No post processing has been applied.
